CSA Member Catherine Moroney and podcaster/advocate Pamela Mertz lead this interactive discussion in a National Stuttering Association online event.
What do we gain from the stuttering experience? Can stuttering be an advantage in the workplace? Often, communication at work is superficial, with people just going through the routine of “Hi, how are you?” rather than really speaking to, or with, someone. The irregular rhythms of our speech allow for open and honest communication, which is invaluable in the workplace. Stuttering makes us interesting and memorable to our speaking partners. This is something we gain by stuttering.

We're so excited to host author Kim Block reading the first book in her series "Stuttering Adventures"! These empowering stories talk about stuttering in a matter of fact tone with the goal of fostering empathy and acceptance for children who stutter. The art also purposefully reflects all different examples of diverse abilities, nationality and cultural practices.
These books are for everyone. We all have challenges and children can relate and connect to these books even if they do not stutter. This inclusive event is for all children, their families, and supporters who would like to connect and learn!

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that universities and colleges are workplaces. Stuttering can be challenging for professors who stutter, as well as for students and colleagues who are not familiar with stuttering. In this engaging panel discussion, we will hear from several professors who stutter, who will discuss how they navigate stuttering across a variety of academic environments. Participants will be invited and encouraged to ask questions of the panel.

Why: Because stuttering is not something that receives a lot of attention and is poorly understood by so many.
This year's event is in memory of Dr. Robert (Bob) Kroll who dedicated his professional career to helping those who stutter. You can read about Bob's life and impact here.
While this event does not have a registration fee, we do ask that participants fundraise and/or make a donation. Whether or not you choose to participate in this event, you can support SSI by raising money through collecting of donations. To ensure that Bob's legacy, spirit and memory lives on through the values and work of SSI, proceeds from this event will be directed to the Bob Kroll Subsidy Fund. This fund will continue to provide assistance for clients in need in his name.
