The 2014 Canadian Stuttering Association Conference took place on October 25. It featured a series of speakers that addressed topics such as current research and treatment directions. People who stutter were also featured speakers, giving personal commentary on their own experiences and perspectives. Attendees enjoyed a lunch and time to socialize and meet people, as well as say hi to old friends.

Norm McEwen at the 2007 CSA conference
Last week, Norm McEwen of Ottawa, a longstanding member of and valued contributor towards the Canadian Stuttering Association, passed away. His good humour, pleasant nature and devotion to the CSA and other causes he believed in will be remembered. We will miss him! Here, Richard Inomata remembers his friend Norm.

Amanda Chen has established a new Toastmasters club, Toastmasters with Targets, for people with speech disfluency to practice applying their targets in public speaking. The Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research offers the following treatment courses:
Dec. 1-5, 2014 - 5 day refresher
Jan. 12-30, 2015 - 3 week intensive clinic
Feb. 6-8, 2015 - 3 day refresher
The therapy approach used during our intensive and refresher clinics is the Comprehensive Stuttering Program. Clinical staff at ISTAR are familiar with other stuttering treatment approaches and will also develop individualized treatment programs to best suit the needs or our clients as required.

The Annual Walk/Run event for Stuttering Awareness will be held again in 2014 in Toronto on September 21. This walk is organized by Greg O'Grady to support the grant program of the Speech and Stuttering Institute.
